PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR
I John 4:15-18
As we continue to push God and the Lord out of the conversation of our nation, I see people becoming increasingly fearful, and that is understandable since this fallen world is a tough place to be without His peace, strength and presence. I find it interesting that our denomination actually began from people handling fear in the right way. The birth of our denomination demonstrates the truth of these words found in 1 John 4:18, “….Perfect love casts out fear.”
What Fear is
Fear is a gift to alert us of danger.
It is a negative emotion that calls our attention that something is wrong so we can do something about it. The problem comes when the enemy uses it to control you.
What Fear Does
Fear Paralyzes. Matthew 25:25
Fear Robs you of blessings. Matthew 25:28
Fear separates you from God. Mathew 25:30, Revelation 21:8
Fear is contagious. Deuteronomy 20:8
Fear is not just your problem.
Fear is at the heart of some of the worst sinfulness in your life.
Arrogance - fear of vulnerability
Impatience – fear that time will run out
, covetousness, jealousy – fear that there will not be enough
What To Do
Sanctify the Lord Jesus in your heart. I Peter 3:15
Surrender to His sovereignty
In your birth
In your life
In your death
Trust God
Face your fear
Examine it.
Some are baseless
Some show areas where you need to mature spiritually
Do it anyway
Habituation – familiarity causes fear to dissipate
