RESPECT
Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. (1 Peter 2:17)
Aretha Franklin’s recent death has helped elucidate one of the qualities of life that has slipped away from us as our nation has been pushing God further and further out of our conversation, and that’s the quality of respect.
The most prominent place we see the need for and call to respect today is in the arena of words. Words have power to harm and power to heal. One day we will give an account of every idle word we have spoken, yet rudeness and disrespect are the most common things we hear and read today.
Today we're going to look at this characteristic that has slipped away from our current culture and consider why and how we should show respect. We are called to be in the world, but not of the world. Even though the world throws respect out the window, as followers of Christ, it must be ingrained in us.
