Thank God for Turkeys!
John 17:1-11
Definition of a turkey: someone who doesn’t remotely fill the bill. A person who seems to be a square peg trying to fit in a round hole.
If turkeys are people who don’t remotely fill the bill, as square pegs in round holes, then Jesus certainly got a bunch of turkeys for disciples, didn’t He?
Yet despite all their mistakes, rashness, brashness, impetuousness, selfishness, lack of faith, and blindness....despite the fact that they were turkeys when it came to being disciples, Jesus loved them, and had faith in them.
If you feel ill-equipped for the job the Lord has called you to, don’t despair. You’re in very good company. All through the Bible we see people doubting their worth and ability be the person God is calling them to be, and to do the tasks He is assigning them. In each case God proves Himself able to take up their inadequacies and do something glorious with them. Every time we doubt ourselves and still move on in faith, we find, just as those who have gone before us that His grace is sufficient and His power shines through our weaknesses.
