Luke 9:51-56
David is referred to in the Bible as a man after God’s own heart. He wanted to please and bless the Lord with his entire being. Listen to what he says in Psalm 119:24-24:
Your testimonies also are my delight; They are my counselors. My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to Your word. (Psalms 119:24-25)
Testimonies are the things in the law where God reveals what pleases him and what does not. It delighted David to discover ways to bless the Lord. He says “they show me how to live the best life.” Now listen what he says about his soul: My soul cleaves to the dust. My soul hangs on to the world. Then he says, Revive me according to your Word.” Refresh my life, renew it, in accordance with your Word.
We need to take heed to the example that David gives us here. He knows that his soul needs training.
Often you’ll see him in the Psalms instructing his soul. In Psalm 103, he says, Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.
If you want to bless the Lord with your life you are going to have to do two things.
One is find out what is important to Him. That’s why He gave us the Bible.
The other is that our spirits have to train our souls.
