Isaiah 58:1-12
The people of Israel were upset because it seemed their fasting and religious ceremonies were not bringing the proper response from God.
God made it clear that they were going about things in the wrong way.
Going hungry was not the way to get God’s attention. Seeing that the hungry around them got fed would get His attention.
Taking on a humiliating appearance didn’t impress or move the heart of God at all. Lifting up the humiliated and downtrodden did.
He shows them the problem in their relationship with Him.
He proposes a solution to them.
He makes a promise to them.
As we enter into the season of Lent, He also makes a proposal to all of us who can learn from Israel’s mistake.
