It is clear from Scripture that God requires forgiveness. In fact, following the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus immediately states in the following verse, “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Although the Bible makes it clear that this is an imperative from our Lord, many who bear His Name harbor bitterness and unforgiveness. Sadly, in doing so, they are grieving the Holy Spirit and missing out on the presence of God’s Presence and Power in their lives.
The reasons to forgive can be summarized in 2 simple points:
First, it’s the best for you.
Next, God commands it.
