The Kentucky Department of Community Based Services has announced drastic cuts in programs to make up for an $86.6 million shortfall. The deepest cuts were to the Childcare Assistance Program, which gives subsidies to low-income, working parents to help cover daycare costs.
Department officials say they had no other options, but child advocates say they are now concerned how families that no longer qualify will absorb the new costs of childcare into already-strapped household budgets.
