Americana - Here we are at the quarter century marker. The landmarks start coming slower and slower now! This time we're heading back across the pond, or at least they're heading this way! Fresh from a performance on the Shetland Isles, it's Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards. A virtuoso quartet of string players formed around the fiddle playing and the wonderful voice of Laura Cortese, this group bring you modern Americana with more than a hint of traditional fiddle music thrown in from the American South.
I found out about the show at the last minute when Gary and Craig Barwell of Geek Force (another show I'm involved in) told me that they were going to head out and see the show at The Running Horse in Nottingham. They both saw Laura last year when she played in town and were determined not to miss out. I thought I'd do a bit of a Google search and see what the fuss was about. I liked what I heard, sent a tweet to Laura and thankfully managed to setup an interview. What follows is a real treat for the ears, great songwriting, excellent musicianship and perfect four part vocal harmonies. What could be better?
