Punk Rock - Greensboro band The Kneads cited Beach Slang as an influence behind some of their recently written songs when they were on episode 11 of The Proc-Cast. From there, he introduced me to Beach Slang frontman James Alex online. It took a while to be in the right place at the right time, and crucially on the right continent, but eventually we managed to arrange a conversation and live session.
At the show after the interview, Beach Slang gave one of the most engrossing and intimate performances I've ever seen to a sizeable Monday night crowd in Nottingham. The audience and the band were on it and tracks like 'Ride The Wild Haze' brought out an energy that reminds bands why they do this in the first place. So much so that the band decided to facetime their booking agent over in the US to share with him the atmosphere of this damp Monday in Nottingham. They tried a few times to get him to answer, eventually getting a response via text saying that he was in the hospital with his wife who was giving birth to their child, so the entire band and crowd got the opportunity to leave a congratulatory message for him! It was a pretty special moment in a pretty special show!
