The year is 1999 and I had just entered university. While many people were preparing themselves for the end of the world, I was with some good friends at a Techno rave in Camburi beach. By watching all the craziest dudes ever dancing to that dark fast-paced acid techno music that dj D.A.V.E The Drummer was playing, I could indeed picture the world ending after the next song…so that’s what the 9th set from my 20th anniversary collection, “Late 90’s Raving”, is all about.
In retrospect, it seems crazy now that we were able to enjoy such hardcore, almost violent songs, but there was clearly a dark side of clubbing emerging by the end of the millennium, and raves were the perfect atmosphere to feel and share that rebellious energy.
So for those who are brave enough to face this non-stop mix, even if as a motivational tool for aerobics workout, you will find hard techno and acid anthems from Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, Laurent Garnier, Daft Punk and The Prodigy, among others.
