Psalm 136 gives us a litany of thanksgiving, the Eucharist gives us a liturgy of thanksgiving, so that we can live a life of thanksgiving. God welcomes our litanies of complaints and the Psalms include more laments than any other type of Psalm. But the Psalms end the way the world ends — with all of our hardest questions answered, our deepest pains healed, our sufferings somehow, incredibly redeemed with meaning, our conflicts reconciled in peace, evil defeated and eradicated, our deaths resurrected.
