The human blink is controlled by the subconscious. The reflexive closing movement of the eyelids clean and protect the eyes. When we blink, the visual centre in the brain is regulated. Therefore, we do not consciously perceive this whole process and the briefly reduced incidence of light. On average, this procedure is conducted 10-15 times per minute. In moments of great excitement, joy or concentration, we can blink significantly less often.
