Lockdown. Shut in. Claustrophobic. Inmovilidad.
What can we learn about ourselves in moments of immobility? So much of our daily activity is full of movement, and within those moments where our movement is restricted, we become faced with discomfort, sometimes pain, and we are forced to be with ourselves in permanence.
Inmovilidad was written in the early months of the 2020 covid lockdown. An expression of anger regarding a relationship that was no longer beneficial. When anger helps us to understand there is something going on that is crossing a boundary. Starting with a driving bass line inspired by a track that grabbed me, and the foundation was created. Big drums to bring the organic energy and synths layered. Acts one and two are expressions of this anger. An anger deriving from the inability to reach out, and a necessity to deal with what is at home, and the conclusion of act three brings a sense of resolution.
Inmovilidad can be used in the latter part of a set, right before playing a few of the closers or those transitionary tracks. Where the end is near but the energy is high. Its emotion settles the dancefloor in a way that listeners understand that the intensity has settled, and we have moved on together as one.
