Luke's passage reveals a shocking announcement to Mary that she, a young virgin, will bear the Son of God and the Savior of the world. But this is then followed by an even more shocking consent: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” Mary's courageous faith is not simply to be admired but rather imitated.
