There are some surprises in this familiar text. It's surprisingly political as King Jesus' reign far surpasses that of Caesar Augustus. The birth of Jesus was surprisingly humble but highlights his ascension as King. And the birth of Jesus never fails to bring the surprising good news of great joy. How can we experience more of this joy? By seeing Jesus... by pondering what God has done... and by praising God and sharing this joy with others.
