With Jesus’ time on earth rapidly coming to an end, he prepares his disciples by teaching them how to live while he’s away. How do we love Jesus in his absence and at his return? The answer he gives here is: with perpetual readiness. We want to be ready to welcome Jesus with a huge, happy welcome. Don't we? That's what this passage is all about.
