2 Corinthians 6:1-2 | The great exchange

‘Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says, “In a favourable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favourable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.’

The Corinthian church was spoiling the gospel. They were blending in false doctrines, causing division and dissent. But we should not look down on this church. We may think we’re doing better than them, but our best will still never be good enough to achieve the holy standard God requires.

Paul, rather than belittling and writing off the church, instead reminds them of the gospel. Jesus came to die for us so that sinners like us and sinners like the Corinthians could be right with God.

Ultimately all scripture is about Jesus. On this Resurrection Sunday it is all the more appropriate that we appreciate this as we remember with gratitude what he has done for us.
