Shangrila
This song is a transatlantic project of DJ N.K. from Lisbon, Portugal in partnership with Gingee from Los Angeles, U.S., with roots in the Philippines.
In the musical conception the idea was to bring together Asian inspired sounds fused with African tribal rhythms, combining the mystical side of Gingee and the Luso-African strand of N.K.
Through these sonorities they take you on a psychedelic trip, building to an ecstatic, and nirvana-like summit.
Gingee made the track in a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles with nothing more than a table and a chair with the sounds of the freeway next to it.
In the track, she blended in beats with various sounds that she had recorded such as drums, vocals, and flute. After recording the samples she sent to N.K. who adapted the sounds according to his reality, giving it an African touch.
The name of the song is called Shangrila, a reference to a mythical and sacred place of refuge in the Himalayas.
