Description

Seamus Dooley is Irish Secretary of the National Union of Journalists. Prior to his appointment as a full-time official he served as a sub editor with the Irish Independent.
He began his journalistic career with the Tullamore Tribune and is former editor of the Roscommon Champion.

His brother is Fianna Fáil Councillor Eamon Dooley from Ferbane and he's the son of former long time Councillor Eddie Dooley.
Seamus has covered local politics: Death of Ber Cowen in 1984, Election of Brian in the By-Election - Also saw him introduced to court, attended selection convention etc.. (First Met Brian on the day De Valera left the Park!).
On local political scene Seamus worked with a number of effective figures: Vincent Wynter, Connie Hanniffy, Jack McCann, long time Chair, Offaly VEC.
He covered the ‘81/’82 All-Irelands….. Tullamore hospital controversies.. Divorce and abortion referenda - bitter campaigns… Church burning in October 1983 and the restoration.
Campaign for Tullamore town park.
Pioneering co-operation between Tullamore Junior Chamber and Carrickfergus Jc (Early twinning at time of conflict ).
His period coincided with huge popularity of Bridge House in Tullamore and Opening of the Phoenix Arms and Spiders Night Club…and the the sad closure of Hayes.
Seamus is a very well known figure both in journalism and broadcasting and is very fondly remembered for his time in the 'Tribune' in Offaly.
