Episode 127 is about one of those movies that has a long title with a funny name in it. Yes, it’s time for “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon” (2006). We know what you’re thinking: “Hey, isn’t that the name of an old people stuff catalog or something?” No, that’s Lillian Vernon. Neither she nor Walter Drake are making elaborate plans to kill people. Well, at least not that we’re aware of. When your three-part-Voltron team of hosts finally gets past an important discussion of phony Loverboy album titles and various methods of delivering exposition, you’ll hear that they truly enjoyed this week’s featured attraction. It’s a good-looking film that begins by going in and out of documentary footage that’s being shot in real time, then eventually goes into standard movie form. There are interesting characters, a compelling premise and just enough inside jokes to keep true horror fans smiling, but not rolling their eyes. So, if you’re ready for a different take on the slasher movie, this one’s ready and waiting!
