In today’s show, “The Buzz about Bees,” we discuss the importance of the honey bee. Honey bees are incredibly important to pollinating crops, being the world’s largest pollinator, where it is estimated that their global economic value to crop production is £230 billion. However, bee populations are at risk due to the irresponsible use of pesticides and loss of habitats. We go on to discuss the curative properties of honey with Dr. Tauseef Khan, a honey specialist working in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, and end the show by presenting the Islamic references to the honey bee, and the spiritual lessons that can be learnt from this highly intelligent and useful creature.
