Each year there are more than 500,000 cases of cervical cancer around the world, leading to the deaths of 300,000 women. 85% of those cases and deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Jane Kim, associate professor of health decision science in the Department of Health Policy and Management, and Mara Hansen Staples SM ’11 are working to change that by expanding cervical cancer screenings in developing countries.
