Next 3 Weeks: The Purposes of Musical Worship
-UP -IN -OUT
Question #1: If worship is "always" and "everywhere," why do we gather regularly as a church?
1. God has created and rescued a People, not just individuals.
2. Jesus died for the Church (Ephesians 5:25-27).
3. We are prone to forget and wander.
4. Scripture commands/models it.
Question #2: If worship includes all of our actions, why do we highlight music/singing?
1. Musical worship engages our emotions/heart
2. Musical worship engages our memory/mind
3. Musical worship engages our bodies/participation
4. Musical worship is a key way God’s people respond UP to Him
“Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done.” — adapted from Chris Tomlin, The Air I Breathe
EXODUS 15
We gather and sing...
1. In Response to God's Creation
2. In Response to God's Character
3. In Response to God's Salvation
***Saved People Sing***
-Past ("old" songs); Present ("new" songs)
-Future/Eternal Salvation
‘UP Worship’ focuses us above/beyond our circumstances,
while reminding us to trust in God’s Victory and Love
Salvation- God created us to live for Him in His world. In our rebellion against God, we are separated from Him and we are dead in our sin. Jesus Christ defeated sin and death through His life, cross, and resurrection. When we turn away from our sinful rebellion against God and look to Jesus, we are rescued and given true, eternal life.
