US equity markets settled with modest gains after a turbulent session - Dow settled +52-points or +0.20% higher after trading in a 560-point intra-day range. The Dow was down -226-points at its session lows and climbed as much as +332-points. The broader S&P500 edged +0.30% higher to 3,246.59, having fallen into correction territory (defined as a fall of 10% or more from its most recent peak) after falling below <3,222.76 and trading as low as 3,209.45. Bristol-Myers Squibb Co rose +2.13% in extended trading after the pharmaceutical company announced positive results from a phase three trial of its immunotherapy Opdivo for bladder cancer patients. The NASDAQ added +0.37% after spanning a 279-point intra-day range. Apple Inc and Microsoft Corp rose +1.03% and +1.3% respectively to lead tech higher Novavax Inc gained +6.4% in the extended session after announcing it had started a late-stage trial of its experimental Covid-19 vaccine in partnership with the UK government’s Vaccines Taskforce. The trial is expected to enroll and test the vaccine in up to 10,000 participants aged between 18 and 84 years over the next four to six weeks.
