Fresh record closing highs for both the Dow and S&P500 indices on Friday (15 September) as investors shrugged off some soft economic data - Dow up +65-points or +0.29% and recording its 39th record for the year-to-date. The broader S&P500 added +0.18% to a fresh record closing high and breaking above >2,500 for the first time. The Financial sector (up +0.5% for its fourth positive session in the past five) was again at the forefront of the indice's advance, while the Energy sector (up +0.3%) capped its best week since September 2016. The NASDAQ rose +0.30% and hitting a fresh record intra-day high (6,464.27), with a rebound in Apple (up +1.01%) helping lift the broader technology sector. Friday's trading was also Quadruple Witching, which sees stock index futures, stock index options, stock options, and single-stock futures all expire. For the week, the Dow rose +2.16% to record its best weekly advance since December 9 last year, the S&P500 +1.58% (with Banks leading the charge) and the Nasdaq +1.39%.
