The record streak for both the Dow and S&P500 ended on Friday, with both indices finishing with modest losses after the September employment report showed that the labour market experienced its first contraction in seven years - Dow slipped -2-points to snap a seven-session winning streak and the broader S&P500 -0.11% to break an eight-session run of gains. The technology-centric NASDAQ inched +0.07% higher to a fresh record close, with Apple slipping -0.06% amid fresh report of problems with the iPhone 8 Plus' batteries. US equity markets enjoyed a strong start to the new month and quarter - for the week, the Dow gained +1.60%, S&P500 +1.20% and Nasdaq +1.45%.
