The return of some merger and acquisition (M&A) activity to Wall Street helped lift the benchmark US indices to fresh record highs - Dow up +29-points or +0.12% and the broader S&P500 +0.20%, NASDAQ +0.39%. Semiconductor giant Broadcom (up +1.42%) offered to acquire fellow chip maker Qualcomm (+1.15%) for US$80B. Reports also emerged late in the trading session that 21st Century Fox (up +9.93%) has been holding talks to sell most of the company to Disney (+2.03%).
