Tehilim Perek 147
Hello everybody. Today’s NachDaily will discuss Tehilim chapter 147, continuing the Pesukei D’zimra chapters. We are now winding down with the last few chapters in Tehilim.
The Shai Lemora explains that this chapter really flows from the previous one, which ended by describing how the world will ultimately accept the kingship of God forever. This perek relates how pleasant it is to actually sing to God, as at the time of the final redemption, mankind will be drawn to sing His praises.
During the process of the final redemption, all will recognize that the ingathering of the exiles and the rebuilding of Yerushalayim was the Hand of God. God deeply cares about the Jewish people, and counts them as He does the stars. The nations possessing humility will ultimately be elevated, while the negative nations will be brought down by Him.
Understanding how much God does for the Jewish people, it is fitting to play musical instruments and sing to Him. As God is omnipotent, He doesn’t value physical strength, but those who fear Him and put their faith in Him.
The author calls to Yerushlayim and Tzion to sing and praise God because there will be peace in the Land, and children will once again fill their streets.
The perek winds down by enumerating God’s greatness.
Verse 12 says:
שַׁבְּחִ֣י יְ֭רוּשָׁלִַם אֶת־יְהוָ֑ה הַֽלְלִ֖י אֱלֹהַ֣יִךְ צִיּֽוֹן׃
O Jerusalem, extol God; praise your God, O Zion!
We find many times throughout Tanach that the Land itself is called upon to thank Hashem. Eretz Yisrael is not like any other land. Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael are one unit. It’s amazing that only when the Jewish people moved back to Eretz Yisrael did the Land start to give forth its blessing once again!
Historically, when the Turks or any other nation occupied Eretz Yisrael, nothing grew. Israel was a wasteland. Only when Am Yisrael returned and re-settled the Land, did vegetation finally grow.
As the pessukim in Yeshaya and the Gemarah in Sanhedrin explains, there is no greater sign of the final redemption than vineyards growing in the Shomron. Baruch Hashem, after 2,000 years, beautiful grapes are growing in that area, and Israel has some of the finest wineries in the world!
How fortunate are we to be living in such wonderful times. The perek opens with the words:
הַ֥לְלוּ יָ֨הּ ׀ כִּי־ט֭וֹב זַמְּרָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ כִּֽי־נָ֝עִים נָאוָ֥ה תְהִלָּֽה׃ בּוֹנֵ֣ה יְרוּשָׁלִַ֣ם יְהוָ֑ה נִדְחֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל יְכַנֵּֽס׃
Hallelujah. It is good to sing to our God; it is pleasant to sing glorious praise. God rebuilds Jerusalem; He gathers in the exiles of Israel.
We can clearly see the beginning of the redemption with the rebuilding of the ancient ruins of old in Yerushalayim and the ingathering of the exiles with over 6 and a half million Jews back in Eretz Yisrael!
May we merit seeing the end of the process of the final redemption, when all death will end forever and we will see the Beis Hamikdash with our very own eyes.
Thank you for listening, and have a wonderful day.
