St John was truly a witness and he was truly willing to accept anything that God had tasked him to do. His message was a message of repentance and to prepare people to receive Christ by telling them that they must bear good fruit because every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. The message is the same for us 2000+ years laters. We must bear good fruit. It is not good enough for us to just label ourselves as " Christians". St John's message was not to live the life that he lived in the desert but to just repent and turn from our ways. To live a way that will bear good fruit.
