Is it not the writer's program, if not the writer's role, on occasion to produce work which stands in opposition to all that the environing culture holds dear? What does it mean to accuse a writer of being divisive or destructive of state policy, of popular mythology, etc? Can writing negate the popular imagery, the state myths, which it must postulate in order to attack?
