The theme of the panel at United Methodist Church is the representation of AIDS in the press. Specific topics that are discussed include how the press covers medical issues surrounding AIDS—in particular the reporting of alternative theories of AIDS transmission and the assumption that HIV is the cause of AIDS—homophobia and AIDS coverage, how the press has handled AIDS among women, and how the press has handled AIDS coverage of Black and Hispanic communities versus the way they handle the coverage of the gay community. There is a very involved Q&A portion of this event. Panelists include Ann Fettner, Nicholas Wade, Peg Byron, Dr. Iris Davis, Larry Kramer, and Charles Ortleb.
