Description

This is, as the moderator Erica Jong describes it, an "afternoon of women reading from their favorite colleagues in different languages." Six American writers read work from around the world: some highlights are Jane Lazarre's reading from Christa Wolf's novel "Cassandra," readings of the work of the Mexican writer Elena Poniatowska by both Magda Bogin and Jessica Hagedorn, and Jewelle Gomez's simultaneously sharp and funny criticism, in her introduction of the work of the Chilean poet Myriam Díaz-Diocaretz, of the barriers queer female writers of color face in the publishing industry and the literary establishment.
