Description

Inspired the great flying aces of WW I (both German and Allied) but mostly in the spirit of Manfred himself... a true Hunter of the Sky... If you want to know more about him... I suggest looking reading a few biographies or seeing the recent movie....

Note: first sound at beginning is the sound of the prop being manually spun to start the engine on a biplane, as the engine starts, it is joined by the main bassline (in a "strobing" style, this is more obvious the second the drums enter a beat or two later) which then becomes a melodic interpretation of the bass. Each of the guitar riffs/phrase was given track names like "Immelmann turn", "tail spin", "wing over", "side slip". etc, all names of different dog fight maneuvers the various supporting air sounds were set into fx channels that round pan in opposing directions and crossfade... all randomly to give the feel of being in the middle of a dog fight, the driving riff at 3:50 is the ace (Red Baron etc) firmly locked on his targets tail... guns blazing... the strobing in the riff, with the pitch changes being the results of hail of hot lead as his rivals plane is torn asunder as it shudders through the sky.....the hunter close to his next "kill" stenciled on the side of his fuselage... and added feature in this version is more gun fire provided through sporadic pitched tom rolls, if it catches you off guard... it is supposed to be erratic when it enters to give the feel of being suddenly engaged as your enemy dives out of the blinding sun.... The mix is dubbed "1918" to mark the death of Manfred Von Richthofen (aka "The Red Baron", April 21, 1918)
