Driving beats, disco pop, eccentric club shows – singer and producer duo Lydmor & Bon Homme share a strong passion for electronic music despite both of them started out their musical development with Danish folk music. Now they are exploring a different aspect of their musical bandwidth with acoustic versions of their pop songs which they recorded live in one-take sessions.
Almost a year ago Jenny Rossander aka Lydmor and Tomas Høffding aka Bon Homme released their debut album ‘Seven Dreams Of Fire’ as Lydmor & Bon Homme. Praised by the press as “perfect bittersweet pop noir” (Deutschlandfunk) or “pop game with a touch of darkness, a smidgen of sass, and a whole lot of sex appeal” (Nordic Spotlight) and danced away by their growing fan base at intense live shows, Lydmor & Bon Homme came across interview situations where they were challenged to represent their music without using their electronic instruments.
“At first this was scary for us, but then the songs opened up in a totally unexpected way as acoustic ballads. Later we started missing those special moments and we considered to record a single one-take session in a big, old school studio to see if we could capture some of that magic.”, says Lydmor.
What started out as a hangover idea with a simple phone call finally led to the EP ‚The Acoustic STC Session‘. Six songs of the debut album, amongst them the singles ‚Things We Do For Love‘ and ‚Missed Out On Disco‘, were recorded in charmingly rough arrangements.
“It was essential for us to not get it too correct, so there was no rehearsal, no overdubs, no click track, no editing or autotune and all the other wonders of modern recording.” states Lydmor, “It turned out to be a lot of fun for us, and we are happily surprised about how good it sounds.”
The restraint instrumentation with piano, keyboard and acoustic guitar leaves space for two voices, each of them so winning in their very own way, flirting, having fun and pleasantly snuggling up without ever giving up their individuality. Drums and snapping fingers suggest beats like memories of danced away nights while here you are listening to the moody soundtrack of some hungover day after.
‚The Red Acoustic STC Session‘ was recorded live in STC Studios Copenhagen.
The entire intense red session has been filmed and all six videos will be published during the fall.
Whilst Lydmor is finding her true voice deep down in Asia, Tomas is working on a new album with his band WhoMadeWho in Copenhagen. In the meantime they will play very few selected concerts as Lydmor & Bon Homme with a four piece band.
