Tony McGuinness is one third of British dance group Above & Beyond.
Formed in 1999 they’ve steadily grown to be the largest UK based dance act; their last album, Common Ground, entered the Billboard Charts at number 3 and followed sell out dates at The Hollywood Bowl, Wembley Arena and Madison Square Garden.
Twice Grammy nominated, their songs (like Sun & Moon, We’re All We Need and Northern Soul) are real anthems, hugely popular and yet not mainstream - Above & Beyond are one of the world’s biggest underground bands and have succeeded without ever having an airplay hit on pop radio.
Their own weekly Radio show, Group Therapy, reaches 21 million people a month and is syndicated to 270 stations worldwide.
As well as writing, recording and touring as Above & Beyond, the band own two labels - Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep. Carefully A&R’d to nurture the talent and careers of the artists they work with, both labels have become the bywords for quality. And their fans, the “Anjunafamily" have an almost mythical reputation for openness, friendliness and dedication.
Tony’s always been a fan of the deeper side of dance music and luckily for him the Covid-19 lockdown has given this obsession some real wings.
With help and advice from scene heavyweights James Grant, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Golan Zocher he’s starting to get the hang of it. His streamed DJ sets from his kitchen table, most running to four or five hours, are reaching c.60,000 people a week.
And his weekly Beatport bill is getting up there, too.
