"Upward" is a post-rock track at heart. However, it is not bound to the genre's tropes: It slowly and gradually crescendos, layer by layer, from an ambient soundscape and electric beats into a full blown almost shoegazy sound with overdriven guitar and drums. This way, it evokes a sense of hope, a new beginning after tough times, hence its name.
