This passage is a warning against idolatry, the age-old sin of Israel which ought to be taken incredibly seriously. Paul points out the continuity between Israel and the church. Our actions have spiritual ramifications, and idolatry is in direct contradiction to worship of Christ. We can either sit at the table of God and drink the cup of Christ, or eat at the table of demons.
