Faith and social issues can be contentious and polarising. But for me, both combined is a marriage made in heaven. As a young songwriter I wanted to explore that, and this was one of those attempts. It is based on the ‘I Am’ sayings, and I thank you for listening.

I Saw Jesus (Brian Peters)
I saw Jesus in a man who didn’t have a home
He was left to wander alone
Nowhere to go, no place to rest
And nothing secure
Jesus, won’t you be the door
Jesus, won’t you be the door
I saw Jesus in a woman holding empty hands
Living out of empty cans
Her children starve, it’s been a while
Since they were fed
Jesus, won’t you be the bread
Jesus, won’t you be the bread
I saw Jesus in a boy within a prison cell
What he’s done he cannot tell
Accusers lie, and so his life
Will end at youth
Jesus, won’t you be the truth
Jesus, won’t you be the truth
[I saw Jesus in a little girl of eight
In her hands she held her fate
Away from home the city’s cold
But she must stay
Jesus, won’t you be the way
Jesus, won’t you be the way]*
I saw Jesus in a baby who has not a prayer
Death and illness ever near
May last the night,
Tomorrow baby won’t survive
Jesus, won’t you be the life
Jesus, won't you be the life
[I saw Jesus in a people living under siege
Never having what they need
Their lives have been a horror
Of eternal night
Jesus, won’t you be the light
Jesus, won’t you be the light]*
