Chris Jimieson from Strides for Africa and Djodjo Amorin from Africa Fest were in the WORT studio to talk with Gil Halsted about the fun activities scheduled for Saturday, August 16 at McPike Park.
Strides for Africa is the organization Chris started after he visited Africa and saw the difficulty some people had getting clean water. He’s built a network of partners that work to build wells in African communities with an emphasis on lasting functionality and community ownership.
And this year Africa Fest will celebrate 25 years in Madison. Strides for Africa will kick off with a 3 or 5 K run or walk and children’s activities and blossom into the colorful, exciting event we’ve come to expect from Madison’s African community. There will be music, food, craft vendors, a parade and fashion show and more.
All are invited to this free, fun and family-friendly opportunity to experience and enjoy the culture of 54 African countries right here in Madison.
