Today, October 18th is the anniversary of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA)successful strike against American Airlines in 1993. The strike by its twenty one thousand attendants at the airline-mostly women-virtually crippled air travel during the busiest week of the year. As the Nation put it, the union, “forced the petulant and vindictive CEO culture, which has reigned unchecked for so long, to give some workers a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
