Every year Cassandra Dixon travels to Palestine to accompany Palestinians whose lands are being systematically and illegally stolen by Israeli settlers and to visit friends she's made over many years.
This year she was in Tuba village in Masafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills in the West Bank with shepherds from the village, watching flocks that settlers from an illegal outpost had brought to graze on the Palestinians’ crops they’d grown on their land for their own animals.
As Cassandra and her friend turned to go back to the village, she was hit on the head with a stick from behind by a settler. Palestinian friends acted quickly to get her medical help for her concussion and brain bleed and she’s made a full recovery.
She experienced some of the violence that threatens Palestinians every minute of their lives. But Cassandra is a white American citizen, able to leave and go home.
She was also able to contact Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin and Representative Mark Pocan who pressed the U.S. Department of State to make enquiries of Israeli authorities and her attacker was arrested and charged - something that does not often happen when Palestinians are attacked.
Next week Cassandra’s going back to Palestine/Israel to testify in his trial. She shared with us how she feels about this land and these people who she’s come to know over time and how she feels in their midst.
She also told us about a way we can help the people and the land by signing a petition for a Palestinian activist and planting olive trees.

Recently he was found guilty in an Israeli military court for acts he did not do. You can read about his case here and sign a petition to support him at www.tiny.one\freesami .
You can also plant olive trees in the Madison Olive Grove along with others in our community with a Dutch organization that supplies the trees here www.tiny.one\madisonolivegrove .
