The United Nations-mandated University For Peace in the province of San Jose, Costa Rica is a real university, accredited to award Masters and Doctoral degrees and certificates for education, training and research for peace.
It’s the only University in the world created through a UN General Assembly Resolution with the specific mandate of “engaging in teaching, research, post-graduate training and dissemination of knowledge fundamental to the full development of the human person and societies through the interdisciplinary study of all matters relating to peace.”
Gil Halsted talked to Stephanie Knox, Assistant Professor for Peace Education. Other Masters Programs offered are in Peace and Conflict Studies, Environment and Development, International Law and Regional Studies. There’s also a Doctoral program.
