February 25th is the anniversary of the death of Chokwe Lumumba in 2014. Lumumba was a long time Black Nationalist, organizer and lawyer. Lumumba had been called “America’s most revolutionary mayor.” Working with the Malcolm X grassroots Movement, The People’s Assembly, a neighborhood based participatory democracy group and the Mississippi Disaster Relief Coalition, which he helped convene after Hurricane Katrina, Lumumba ran successfully for mayor of Jackson.
