Madison is an exceptional place to live for many reasons. Sure, we have our problems, our disagreements, our flaws. However, many things that we take for granted don’t exist everywhere.
One of those exceptional but taken-for-granted things is Madison’s Community Immigration Law Center or CILC that has offered a free immigration law clinic since 2009 and legal representation services for those facing deportation since 2017.
***They are having an event at the Delta Beer Lab on Tuesday September 10th at 5:30 to talk about and celebrate CILC’s work in the community.***
Aissa Olivarez is CILC’s Managing Attorney and she came to the WORT studio on September 1st to talk about current immigration issues and CILC services with World View’s Gil Halsted.
As they started, Gil first ran through a list of myths about immigrants and asylum seekers (www.globalrefuge.org/get-involved/advocate-with-us/combatting-disinformation/) provided by Global Refuge (www.globalrefuge.org/) and Aissa debunked them all.
They also talked about the Biden-Harris executive order, Keeping Families Together Program, announced in August and unfortunately tied up in litigation for the moment.
And they talked about CILC services and their work in our city and state. People can find information on the website CILCMadison.org and on their Facebook Page facebook.com/cilcmadison.
