Gil Halsted talked with Cassandra Dixon and Baz Sundark who are behind an auction of paintings based on photographs of Masafer Yatta.
Masafer Yatta is an area of the West Bank that Cassandra has visited annually since 2005 along with other internationals from around the world to accompany and assist Palestinians because Palestinian farmland, livestock and homes and people in the area are being threatened by Israeli settlers.
Cassandra has been instrumental in connecting World View and our community with the rural towns in Masafer Yatta and their people. Please see links to interviews with residents below.
Now Baz has created paintings from photos Cassandra took, enlivening them with color and transforming everyday scenes into art able to connect us all to the people and life in Masafer Yatta and to raise funds for them by auctioning the art. All proceeds will be donated to Masafer Yatta families through local nonprofit, Palestine Partners http://palestinepartners.org/
The art will be available to view in person at Java Cat Coffee, 4221 Lein Road, from October 3rd to 13th and the public is invited to a Meet and Greet evening with artist Baz Sundark at Java Cat Thursday, October 9, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
