In a surprise move earlier this fall, state Republican lawmakers introduced a bill that would put redistricting power in the hands of the legislature. The bill comes before a lawsuit - alleging the current voting maps are unconstitutional - heads to the newly-liberal state Supreme Court.
This afternoon, members of SEIU Wisconsin, leaders with Voces de la Frontera, and local allies gathered inside the Capitol rotunda to protest the redistricting bill. They say that Wisconsin’s independent judiciary - and not state legislators - should draw voting maps.
