Earlier this week, state Democrats announced that they plan to re-introduce legislation in order to fund universal, no-cost school meals. The bill was written with input from Healthy School Meals For All Wisconsin, a coalition of public health, education, and youth services organizations.
Jennifer Gaddis is an Associate Professor of Civil Society and Community Studies at UW-Madison and a member of that coalition. This summer, she conducted a survey of school food service workers; she says her findings point to the need for systemic change. After this week’s bill announcement, she shared some insight with WORT News Producer Faye Parks.
