Pelvic exams are a routine way to check for reproductive issues and diseases. As part of their training, medical students sometimes perform the exams on unconscious patients.
But hospitals don’t always get the patient’s consent before they go under anesthesia.
The widely-criticized practice is still legal in most states, including here in Wisconsin – for now. State lawmakers approved a bill this week that would require hospitals to get written, informed consent.
