This year, the U.S. Department of Education revised their Free Application for Federal Student Aid - or FAFSA. They say that the new application is more user friendly and could broaden eligibility for federal aid by more than 600,000 students.
But the revised application came out months behind schedule and is rife with technical issues. And admissions offices across the country are still waiting on the information that helps them determine need-based scholarships.
According to Wisconsin Public Radio, more than 17 million students fill out the FAFSA each year. As of late March, the Department of Education says they’ve processed and delivered about 1.5 million applications.
