The latest news from the Balochistan province in Pakistan is the opening of the Gwadar airport and armed violence on the roads.
Pakistan and China have just opened Pakistan’s largest airport in the Balochistan city of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea, near a deep seaport that China had previously built. The project was meant to bring modernization and economic development to the region as part of China’s Belt and Road initiative – but it has not been going so well.
Gil Halsted and Amitabh Pal talked with Shezad Baloch about the situation there and why it’s so difficult to find peace and prosperity in Pakistan’s largest province.
